Amadeus GDS Integration in Bangladesh: The Definitive Setup Guide for 2026
Article
Why Amadeus dominates the EU and Middle East:

Amadeus is the largest of the three global GDS by airline transaction volume and by hotel content. Headquartered in Madrid and originally owned by a European airline consortium (Air France, Iberia, Lufthansa, SAS), Amadeus carries the deepest content for European carriers (Lufthansa Group, Air France-KLM, IAG, ITA Airways, LOT, TAP) and most Middle East carriers (Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, Saudia, Gulf Air). For any Bangladesh agency selling Hajj, Umrah, EU tourism, work-permit or family-reunification travel, Amadeus is usually the single best content source.

Beyond airlines, Amadeus owns hospitality assets (Hotel IT, TravelClick) that give it 1.5M+ hotel properties with negotiated wholesale rates available through Amadeus Hotels API. Combined with car rental (Hertz, Avis), rail (Eurail, Rail Europe, Renfe, Thalys, Eurostar), insurance and destination services, you can build a complete OTA stack on Amadeus alone.

Amadeus interfaces — Selling Platform Connect vs Web Services:

The traditional terminal interface is Selling Platform Connect (formerly Selling Platform / Amadeus Pro Web). The modern API interface is Amadeus Web Services (SOAP) and the newer Amadeus REST APIs (also called Self-Service APIs in some marketing materials, though the production-grade APIs are different from the developer playground). Trip Designer integrates on Web Services + selected REST endpoints (those with full booking capability) so you get production-grade access from day one, not the developer-tier APIs which have request quotas.

Authentication: Amadeus uses a session-token model — we authenticate once with your office ID, get a session token, and maintain it for subsequent calls. Our middleware handles token rotation, failover, and the IST (idle session timeout) behaviour cleanly. Your agents never see authentication errors; they see fares.

Coverage strengths and gaps:

Deepest: Lufthansa group (Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Brussels, Eurowings), Air France-KLM, IAG group (BA, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, LEVEL), TAP Portugal, LOT Polish, ITA Airways, all major Middle East and North African carriers. Excellent: Singapore Airlines, Thai, Vietnam Airlines, ANA. Solid: US majors (American, United, Delta) — though Sabre is sometimes deeper here. Limited compared to others: budget LCCs (use the airline's direct API or a Bangladesh aggregator like BDFare for those).

For Bangladesh-specific routes: Amadeus carries Biman, US-Bangla and Novoair selectively. For comprehensive Bangladesh domestic content, Trip Designer combines Amadeus with BDFare so your agents always see the cheapest available fare regardless of source.

Master Pricer — Amadeus's killer feature for agencies:

Amadeus Master Pricer is the most flexible fare-shopping engine in any GDS. You can search "show me the cheapest 5 fares from DAC to LON for any 3 consecutive days next month, with at most 1 stop, on a refundable basket" in a single API call. The engine returns up to 250 priced options with full fare rules attached. For travel agents serving customers who are flexible on dates ("anytime in March"), this is a 10x conversion uplift compared to airlines' fixed-date search.

Trip Designer exposes Master Pricer through a friendly "Flexible date search" UI in your agent panel and (optionally) on your customer-facing B2C site. The customer picks a month, sees a price calendar, and clicks the day that fits their budget. Conversion data from our agency customers: 25-40% lift in inquiry-to-booking when this is on the customer site.

Trip Designer's Amadeus integration package:

What we deliver: complete Amadeus Web Services connectivity, Master Pricer flexible-date search, hotel shopping and booking, car rental and rail, fare markup engine, queue and ticket workflows, automatic reissue / refund handling with proper EMD (Electronic Miscellaneous Document) creation, reporting, and the full white-label B2B portal for your sub-agents. Timeline: 3 weeks from kickoff to live production.

Included: 1-on-1 onboarding for your operations team, a recorded training video library, 30 days of dedicated engineering support post-launch, plus ongoing API monitoring (we get alerted before your agents notice issues). Optional: corporate self-booking tool branding, expense-management system integration, multi-currency fare display.

Costs and what to expect monthly:

Amadeus pricing is volume-tiered. Entry-tier Bangladesh agency monthly cost: roughly BDT 35,000-120,000 all-in for platform + per-segment fees. Trip Designer integration is a one-time setup fee that includes contracting coordination with Amadeus's commercial team in Singapore (their regional office for Bangladesh).

Break-even path: for full-service agencies, single-month break-even on platform cost is realistic if you process 80+ international tickets monthly. The bigger margin lift comes from cross-selling hotels + insurance + transfers in the same booking flow — Amadeus integration unlocks all of these in one API surface.

Hajj and Umrah agencies — why Amadeus matters specifically:

Saudia, EgyptAir, Gulf Air and Emirates dominate Hajj / Umrah airline supply. Amadeus carries all of them with deep group-booking tooling — you can hold 30, 50, 100 seats for a tour group at a fixed fare, request named-passenger PNRs in bulk, and ticket the entire group with a single command. Saudia's special Hajj fares and standby-list management work natively. Compare with manual group bookings via phone/email where you lose hours per group.

Trip Designer's Amadeus integration includes our Hajj / Umrah group-booking module which sits on top of the GDS — your operations team manages the pilgrim list, the system handles seat allocation, PNR splits per family, special meal requests (HFML for Hindu, AVML for Asian Veg, KSML for Kosher etc.), and ticket batch issuance.

Common integration questions:

How is Amadeus different from BDFare in practice? BDFare is a Bangladesh aggregator that resells GDS content (often Amadeus or Sabre under the hood). Going direct on Amadeus removes the middleman, lowers per-segment cost, and gives you content the aggregator might filter out (special fares, corporate negotiated rates).

Can I use Amadeus and Sabre at the same time? Yes. Trip Designer's search engine queries both in parallel, de-dupes results, applies your markup, and shows your agents the best option per fare class. Common pattern: Amadeus for EU/Middle East, Sabre for North America, BDFare for Bangladesh domestic.

What about NDC? Amadeus is rolling out NDC content carrier-by-carrier through 2026. Trip Designer's integration supports both EDIFACT and Amadeus NDC where the airline has enabled it. You get NDC upsell margin where available, EDIFACT reliability everywhere else.
